Inspection and Design for Safety Improvements to the Tubes and Rehabilitation of First Avenue and Long Island City Ventilation Buildings and Shafts
The East River Tunnels are four 3,949 feet long tunnels which carry single-track railroad connecting Manhattan to Long Island City, Queens. The tracks carry Long Island Railroad (LIRR) and AMTRAK trains travelling to and from Penn Station and points to the north and east. The tracks also carry New Jersey Transit/AMTRAK/LIRR trains to Sunnyside Yard.
The scope of work included inspection and design for safety improvements to the tubes and rehabilitation of first avenue and Long Island City Ventilation buildings and shafts.
The work comprised of condition inspection survey to identify the safety issues/deficiencies, preparation of design report, preliminary and final design, cost estimates and construction support services.
