Gowanus Expressway Design Prospect Parkway Interchange Deck Replacement
The Gowanus Expressway Viaduct is a 4 mile long very busy viaduct which carries Brooklyn Queens Expressway carrying 200,000 vehicles per day. SEPC worked with Bechtel Sells URS (BSU) Joint venture in maintaining the integrity and serviceability of the 4-mile-long Gowanus Expressway Viaduct, the largest steel viaduct in the State of New York.
Scope of work included development of Gowanus/Shore Pkwy interchange improvements and development of BQE connector replacement alternatives. SEPC developed roadway alignments, drainage design, construction sequencing and staging plans, and performed detailed construction duration analysis, and construction cost estimates. Other design work performed by SEPC included concrete roadway deck, catwalk and curbs, floorbeams, stringers, bearings, etc. floorbeam repairs also required full depth roadway removal to facilitate construction and replacement. Construction Cost: $14M (Responsible for 20% of work ~ $2.8M).
