Biennial Bridge Inspection and Design of Miscellaneous Structural Repairs of Harlem River Lift Span and Associated BINS at RFK Bridge

The Harlem River lift bridge is one of three structures at RFK Bridge which crosses the Harlem River to connect Manhattan and Randall’s Island.  The main lift-truss span is 310 feet long while the lengths of side truss spans are 230 feet each.  The clearance of the lift span above mean high water is 55 feet while the clearance of the lift span in raised position is 135 feet.

SEPC performed biennial inspection of the Harlem River Lift Bridge and its associated BINS.  The scope of work included review of existing documents, field inspection of structural components including floorbeams, stringers, box girders, columns, sign gantries and light standards, preparing inspection reports and other miscellaneous tasks needed to complete the task.  The work also included concrete sounding to remove loose or unsound concrete.

We also performed interim special inspection in the year following the regular biennial inspection.
