Astoria Boulevard Bridge over BQE East Leg Rehabilitation in Queens County
The Astoria Boulevard Bridge spans the eastbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway ramp that takes traffic to the eastbound Grand Central Parkway. The project features a new roadway deck, new steel beams and upgrades to lighting and drainage to improve travel along the boulevard.
SEPC inspected the replacement of the concrete deck, the replacement of the entire bridge steel work including the girders, and diaphragms, the bearings, the concrete pedestals, the approach slabs, and the bridge railings. Also inspected soldier pile driving, vertical and horizontal lagging for the phased construction of the bridge. Other work inspected included repairs of cracks and spalls along the exposed face of the abutment stem and wingwalls.
