MTA Bridges and Tunnels Project, Biennial Bridge Inspection and Design of Miscellaneous Structural Repairs at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Main Spans.
We have performed three cycles of biennial inspections and three cycles of special inspections conducted following the regular biennial inspections.
The Verrazano Narrows Bridge is a heavily traveled, 9,800-foot-long, suspended span bridge, connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island. Existing construction varies, and consists of a 4,260-foot main span, 1,215-foot side spans and approach spans on both sides.
SEPC performed work as a sub-consultant on the project. We performed the biennial bridge inspections, prepared inspection & flag reports for the inspected bridges, and prepared sketches using Bentley MicroStation. The scope of work included review of existing documents, field inspection of structural components including floorbeams, stringers, box girders, columns, sign gantries and light standards, bridge deck and other miscellaneous tasks needed to complete the task. The work also included concrete sounding to remove loose or unsound concrete.
